Meeting! November 12, 2009.

The next meeting of the Inn is Thursday, November 12, at 6 PM, at the Legal Aid Justice Center. Jim Hingeley's group is responsible for the presentation, which will be interesting and enlightening, as usual.

David Saunier has graciously agreed to come and give a presentation on Restorative Justice in Virginia. The Restorative Justice Association has a website. If each of you would take a few minutes to look over the website and become familiar with restorative justice, we can make the Q&A section of the presentation even more interesting. Mr. Saunier anticipates he will speak for about half an hour and reserve about half an hour for questions. We are fortunate to have David as our speaker.

We hope to see everyone there....

Your humble Secretary/Treasurer.

September 10 meeting

Dan Meador has notified me of the following:
"Justice Lemons is confirmed for the September 10 meeting. He will speak on “The Vanishing Jury Trial,” which he will explain has significance not only to lawyers and litigants but more broadly to American justice and democracy. As you know, Justice Lemons is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia, and, as you may not know, as Vice President of the American Inns of Court, he is in line to become President of the American Inns of Court in 2010."

So, get your dues to me (see previous post, below) and get ready for another excellent year of good times. And special thanks to Dan Meador and everyone involved for following up with Justice Lemons -- it will be a fantastic program you won't want to miss!

Get ready, everyone!

Hello all --

This is a reminder that our first meeting of the 2009-2010 Inn of Court will be on September 10, at 6 PM, at the Legal Aid Justice Center. We might very well have Justice Lemons come speak that very evening, and we anticipate a heavy turnout and an informative and exciting program.

The new year comes at a price, however, as you all know. Once again, we are holding the line on dues. Please send $200.00 at your earliest convenience to the Thomas Jefferson Inn of Court, at the following address:

Thomas Jefferson Inn of Court
c/o William W. Tanner, Treasurer
414 E. Jefferson St.
Charlottesville, VA 22902

This year promises to be a good one, so get yourself involved early. Also, if you know of anyone who would like to become part of our Inn, please get him or her in touch with Ron Tweel at RTweel@mhlrt.com

End of the year party!

A good time was had by all at Judge Helvin's place on Saturday -- the weather was beautiful, the company was marvelous, and the cops did not get called. If you weren't there, sorry you missed it ... and if you were, well, what happens at the Inn of Court party stays at the Inn of Court party....and yes, that is a snake.
